Marbella – the old town is a must-see

Whether it's Alicante, Barcelona or Marbella, the old town is one of the places worth seeing. In the case of the popular resort on the Costa del Sol, Casco Antiguo is the heart of the city, dating back to Roman times. There, you will feel the true Spanish atmosphere, created by narrow streets and architecture characteristic of Andalusia.

Casco Antiguo is the perfect place to take a walk in the footsteps of history, but that's not all. As in any city centre, you will also find local boutiques and plenty of restaurants serving traditional Spanish dishes.

Puerto Banús marina – for fans of luxury

The Puerto Banús marina is one of the places for which Marbella is famous. Thanks to its access to the Mediterranean Sea, Spain attracts not only beachgoers but also wealthy sailing enthusiasts. On the southern coast, they can enjoy one of the most prestigious marinas in Europe, built in 1970.

Puerto Banús houses over 900 yachts, including some as long as 50 metres (known as superyachts). In addition, the marina offers attractions on land, such as exclusive boutiques, art fairs and nightlife, which are also popular with celebrities.

Avenida del Mar promenade – one of the most famous streets in the city

The seaside promenade Avenida del Mar is a famous street in Marbella. This picturesque place delights visitors not only with its views of the coast, but also with its numerous bronze sculptures. Many of them were created by Salvador Dalí, an outstanding surrealist and one of the best artists of the 20th century. Thanks to this exhibition, some people call the promenade an open-air art museum.

La Concha Mountain – the symbol of Marbella

Do you like spending time outdoors? If so, there is no better place to live than Marbella. The city's attractions are not limited to architectural gems. A great example is La Concha, a mountain rising just above the resort's skyline, offering beautiful views from its summit. Although the climb can be challenging, many locals enjoy trekking there.

Interestingly, La Concha is considered to be the secret behind Marbella's favourable microclimate.

Orange Square, or Plaza de los Naranjos

Do you type ‘Marbella Spain attractions’ into Google? One of the places that will definitely show up is Plaza de los Naranjos. This is Orange Square, which was established in 1485 after the Christians conquered the city. It is located in the centre and is surrounded by characteristic white houses and three historic buildings. These are the Ermita de Santiago, the Casa Consistorial, or town hall, and the Casa del Corregidor.

And where does the name come from? Plaza de los Naranjos owes its name to the orange trees that surround the Renaissance fountain located between them. It is a popular meeting place for the residents of Marbella.

Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the site of a mosque

The Church of the Incarnation, or Iglesia de la Encarnacion, is one of the most important monuments in Marbella. It was built in the 16th century on the site of a former mosque. The altar, dating from 1594, was made by Juan Repullo. Today, the church impresses with its distinctive stone façade and mixture of architectural styles. It shows Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance influences.

Parque de Alameda – a park in the very centre of Marbella

If you feel like taking a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, there is a unique place hidden away in Marbella. Parque de Alameda is a picturesque park in the centre of town, which delights visitors with its variety of flowers, plants and small works of art, such as sculptures and fountains. You can go there to read a book, have a picnic or simply stroll along the paths, just like many other locals.

Bonsai Museum – an interesting idea for spending your free time

Are you passionate about botany? If so, one of the places you should visit is the Museo del Bonsai in Parque Arroyo de la Represa. It is dedicated to the art of bonsai tree cultivation and boasts one of the largest collections in Europe. In addition, there are olive trees, oriental plants and ponds inside. This makes it the perfect place to relax on your own, with family or friends. Residents of Marbella can also take part in workshops organised regularly at the museum.

Marbella beaches – attractions for beach lovers

One cannot forget what Marbella has to offer. We are talking about beaches that are associated with the whole of Spain. However, in the case of this exclusive resort, residents have as much as 27 km of coastline.

There is plenty to choose from! If you are looking for rest and relaxation, head to Playa Venus, Playa de la Fontanilla or Playa Bajadilla. If you prefer natural bathing areas, Cabopino is the place to go, as it borders the Artola sand dunes. Lovers of luxury beach clubs can visit Ocean Club, Nikki Beach and La Sala Beach, among others.

Plaza de Toros de Marbella – Spain from its traditional side

How about experiencing the real atmosphere of Spain? A bullfight in a traditional bullring, the Plaza de Toros de Marbella, will help you do just that. This historic venue, opened in 1964, is not only used for watching the spectacle of the bullfighter and the animal in the spotlight. It is also a venue for entertainment and cultural events, such as concerts and the San Bernabé fair held on 11 June. The arena can hold up to 9,500 people!

Numerous attractions are not all that Marbella has to offer. The airport in Malaga (about 40 km away) makes it a popular destination for tourists and people looking for a home in a well-connected city.
